Harry, I'm sorry to miss the celebration of your many contributions to the iSchool (and the world at large). I can personally testify to the difference your support and warmth has made in making the iSchool the best in the world- thanks for all you've done, and I hope that your next stage in life is as fruitful as the past years have been.

Harry, I feel so fortunate to know you and had the opportunity to learn from you over the years. I am grateful both for your professional wisdom and your personal warmth. I was at the iSchool before you -- I remember everyone was excited about this new professor with the interesting accent. You did not disappoint! Thank you for taking the leap to UW, and for pushing the iSchool to greatness during your time as faulty and in the Dean's office. I wish you all the best in retirement.

I think of you, dear friend, every time I read my favorite quote from Maya Angelou: 'I've learned that people will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel." You have made "my school is the I-School" far more than a string of words. You have made everyone whom you meet feel a part of something very special---a kind and extraordinary community. Thank you for your big heart as well as brilliant mind and sense of humor, Harry.

Harry, it has been my great fortune to have had you as a mentor in my preparation for research and scholarship in the field. Now I see that it can be done with vision, humor, and personal engagement. One example: your visits to my summer course have been an inspiration to future teacher-librarians who will forever feel "the iSchool is my school."

Harry, thank you for meeting your students where they are. You instantly made me feel welcome at the iSchool, and I know you empowered all the faculty to create inclusive learning environments. Thank you for your dedication to diversity, and especially to the priority you gave to the iSchool's mission to foster indigenous scholarship. What an honor to serve under Dean Harry Bruce as the inaugural Distinguished Practitioner in Residence. I won't forget the day he called me and said - hey we got this great new program! How about you join us and get it started? I jumped at the chance. I feel very fortunate to have been able to experience a small slice of his leadership, vision and kindness.
